The République Napolitaine was one of the shortest lived countries of all time. It lasted only from January 23 to June 19, 1799. Despite not even making its five month anniversary the founders had enough confidence to go ahead and mint money. This piece, though worn, has survived the past 200 years pretty well. |
In the Répertoire des Monnaies Napoléonides (1971, p.
320) it states that the mintage is unknown. This is a second, better example of this interesting coin. |
