Vern's Comments:

BELL

No 5 D&H 39

DUNDEE Issuer unknown.
Obverse :- A sentry on duty standing between a fort flying a flag charged with the cross of St. Andrew, and a mounted gun of which only the breech is seen.
Reverse :- A pair of scales and a monogram ·JM&Co. Legend :- PAYABLE ON DEMAND DUNDEE.
   Edge :- Plain.
Diesinker, Willets; manufacturer, Kempson. One cwt. struck. Scarce.

Comments. The identity of JM & Co is now lost. Possibly they were a firm of grocers near the barracks, hence the sentry. The type of bayonet on the musket is worth noting.
The reverse design is very similar to some of the coins of the East India Company, and it may well be taken from them.
