Smith Collection of 1812

In April of 2002 while living in Los Angeles I received an odd phone call. A gentleman introducing himself as "Mr. Smith" called me and asked if I would be interested in acquiring a collection of coins from 1812. I was wary but interested. In the big city you quickly get a little jaded about the good intentions of your neighbors. We arranged to meet and in less than an hour he showed up with the collection below which he gifted to me at no cost! He explained that he primarily collected Roman coins but had gotten obsessed with the year 1812. Explaining that he needed room in his safe he apologized for not including the gold (!) coins and wished me well. Turned out his name really is Smith...
